Following our retrofit survey – and a year of observing/tackling the patterns of condensation, damp and mould at the back (North) side of our home, we have decided to install an MVHR as a first measure. Definitely not the cheapest, but hopefully will have immediate benefits – even in the summer months – of distributing fresh air, expelling damp from kitchen/bathroom etc. In the longer term we went with this first because as we start to do other measures to make the house more air tight, we won’t need to worry about air flow – and come winter we hope the warm air we generate can help reduce our heating-energy bills.

Congratulations on successfully installing an MVHR system. It’s definitely no small feat, considering the heat exchanger and all the ductwork involved.

Improving the airtightness of your home can greatly enhance the performance of the MVHR system. With fewer opportunities for warm or cool air to escape, the system can more effectively recover and redistribute heat throughout your home.

I’m eager to hear about your experience with its performance. Did you conduct an airtightness test before installation? It would be interesting to know.
